MUNICIPIO / CONOCE TEROR
OSORIO FARM ESTATE

The Osorio Farm Estate constitutes Teror’s most exquisite natural setting. Part of the legendary Doramas Rural Park, which dates back to before the conquest, Osorio contains one of the most important forests on the island.

Located two kilometres from Teror’s historic town centre, Osorio Farm covers some 207 hectares, with a number of shaded trails, slopes, ravines, farmland and forest.

Historically, these lands belong to the Manrique de Lara family, who raised crops (maize, wheat, potatoes and fruit trees), in addition to the varied forest ranges. Within its boundaries ancient laurisilva forest survives and broad areas are covered with chestnut trees.

Among the different natural features found on the farm (especially near the estate house), a number of trails snake through the park, trails lined with trees that have been imported from Europe and South America, such as ombu, monkey puzzle, cork, oat and evergreen oak.

In the centre of the Farm is the main estate, which covers an area of about 1,000m2. It is made up of an older section, located at the rear with a wooden balcony, typical of rural Canarian houses. Another section, in the 19th century English colonial style, was added on at the front. On the west side of the house is a beautiful romantic style garden, which blends well with its natural surroundings.

Osorio also contains homes for the local farmers who work the pasture lands and a barnyard area where some black Canarian pigs are kept. Here you will also find springs and enchanted corners of the forest which offer the visitor restful peace. Hikers and lovers of nature find many interesting trails and wilderness to explore in Osorio, on their way to the summit.

Since 1981 Osorio Estate Farm has belonged to the Island of Gran Canaria government. Since 1986 a Nature Classroom has helped promote environmental education. There are barrack-style bunk bed lodgings for organised group activities.
